Eddie unclipped the little collapsible water bowl also secured to his running belt, and set it down to fill it with water from his bottle. Kneeling down, he almost didn't see the creeping vine slip over his shoulder until the Torracat at his side hissed angrily, [break][break]

“Hey, knock that off!” he grumbled, swatting the vine from his shoulder. He looked back to see the hungry maw of a Victreebel mere inches from his face. Eddie glowered in mild agitation, “Look, I'm sorry if you're hungry, but ya ain't eatin' one of my guys. Now fuck off, will ya?”[break][break]

The carnivorous plant seemed to fix Eddie with a glower of it's own before snake-like vines pulled it back into the nearby canopy. Eddie stared it down until the last bits of yellow and green disappeared into the upper boughs, [break][break]

“What a pain in the ass. Alright, drink up, you two; we'll probably hafta bounce before anyone else tries to turn ya into lunch.”

Now that the bowl was filled, Eddie rose to his feet and stared out into the woods beyond. His eyes narrowed with suspicion as he looked into dark boughs and a thick canopy; surely nothing would get the drop on him or his Pokemon if he exercised such vigilance. [break][break]

Eddie was proven wrong almost immediately when he turned back to check on the Growlithe and Torracat, only to see them standing back while a Salandit drank it's fill of water, [break][break]

“Hey, uh, excuse me. That's supposed to be for my buddies,” he started, leaning forward. Maybe he was just seeing things, but he could have sworn that the Salandit started to drink faster. [break][break]

Before he could shoo the lizard away himself, it suddenly turned to him, flicking out it's tongue to catch a droplet of water running down it's chin. Then it turned and dashed away; it was actually kinda cute, with it's strange sort of side-to-side gait, and it was far quicker than Eddie anticipated. [BREAK][BREAK]

With a resigned sigh, Eddie topped off the water bowl and watched long enough to make sure Blanche and Daisuke actually got to have a drink. Then he'd be going back to Rustboro, where he wouldn't be accosted by any more wild Pokemon.

With the two Fire-types having drunk their fill, Eddie shook out the last remaining droplets of water before stowing the collapsible water bowl away for the return trip. He was nearly ready to pop back in his earbuds when he heard Blanche barking into the woods. [break][break]

With an exasperated groan, Eddie peered into the shaded darkness to figure out what exactly the Growlithe was upset about. It didn't take long to discover the cause of the disturbance when a whirling mass of purple and gray came rolling out of the woods, only to be met head-on by Blanche's FLAME WHEEL. Within moments, a Whirlipede lay at Eddie's feet, unconscious and smoldering. Eddie chucked a Poke Ball at the creature with a grumble; well shit, now this Pokemon's safety was his responsibility.
